SIEGE OF TURIN 1706 - THE TURIN'S MILITIA: PART 3 THE COLOURS

If reconstructing the uniforms of Turin’s Urban Militia required considerable research, there is far less uncertainty regarding the colours carried by each battalion. The colours of Turin’s Urban Militia are, in fact, still essentially represented by the official flag of the City of Turin today. Their clearest and most useful historical representation is once again found in Genta’s drawing.

From this drawing, it has been possible to reconstruct the colours, including the original bulls depicted on them.

The motto reads AUXILIUM MEUM A DOMINO, meaning “My help comes from the Lord.” After the victory at the Battle of Turin, the year 1706 was added, embroidered in the outer corner of the fourth quarter (here below).
