BATTLE OF TURIN 1706 - REGIMENT DRAGONI DI SUA ALTEZZA REALE

Maybe, some of you, always wondered how did a Cavalry or Dragoon Regiment appear at the epoch  of la Guerre en Dentelle, i.e. during the XVIII Century.

I was curious too; an entire regiment at 1:1 ratio, arrayed for battle. So my choice fell upon the famous Reggimento Dragoni di Sua Altezza Reale, that so fiercly fought at the Battle of Turin in 1706 and that is still existing nowadays.

This Regiment partecipated to the Battle of Turin on 7th September 1706 with a total force of 4 squadrons, each on 2 companies, with a total strengh of abvout 430 men.

To cut the papersoldiers and the horses for this task was quite a challenge, but at the very end I was able to array a complete cavalry regiment at 1to1 ratio. I think it is not possible to have this view when you look at some wargames where this regiment is formed of about 40 or 20 figures.

BATTLE OF TURIN - 1706 REGGIMENTO MONFERRATO II BATTALION TROOPING THE COLOUR

Here some picture taken this afternoon during the ceremony held at the Castle of Lucento, Turin, where the II Battalion of the Monferrato Regiment was trooping its colour to the Commander of the Town Count von Daun.

The ceremony took place at 19.30 local time, under a light blue sky, shining in betweens the frame of the Alps still with snow.

BATTLE OF TURIN 1706 - Monferrato Regiment at fight

Finally, having time beccause of pandemia, I could use it to finish the 2nd Battalion of the Monferrato Regiment at the Battle of Turin, 7 September 1706.

This unit, along with the other Battalion of the Regiment stayed in Turin to defend it from the French. At the end of the battle, this unit, together with others made a sortie from the walls of Turin attacking the French at the back.

In the picture above the unit (around 500 papersoldiers on 12 companies whose 1 of grenadiers) are firing on the French

Sadly, (well I am Piedmontese and these are my men!) got a cannon explosion just in the very center of the unit, right behind the two flags and in fron of the poor young drummers. The Savoyard/Piedmontese will win in any way.

The French are really trying to stop their advance and 3 new shots just came in the middle of the stubborn Piedmontese unit that - next picture - at its turn shoots strongly against the fugitive French units

I decided to do a project that I always dream of: the Plates of ALL the units that fought at the Battle of Turin, with number of men, officers, drummers and so on..  of this I will do a book... in my dream.
I start here with a private of the Prussian Regiment Markgraf Philippe Wilheml von Brandeburg.

BATTLE OF TURIN 7th September 1706 - THE FIGHTING AROUND THE CASTLE OF LUCENTO 2nd part

Finally, I was able to remake (with paper) the Castle of Lucento. I still have to add the farms that were around and the church, but still it gives the idea of what it was.

Top: on the left the Castle. The other (big) building was a system of Castle and farm. In front of it a little farm. In the center I put 2 companies of the Regiment Monferrato.

Two companies at 1:1 Ratio with the Ordonnance Colours of the Monferrato Regiment. The scale is 70 cm = 100 m, so 700 cm (or 7 meters) = 1 Km
